The Daily News today (12) launched its special World Elephant Day supplement, ‘Every Elephant Matters,’ underscoring the urgent need to conserve Sri Lanka’s elephant population and promote sustainable human-elephant coexistence.
The publication brings together expert insights, conservation perspectives and awareness-driven content aimed at fostering greater public understanding of the challenges facing Sri Lanka’s elephant population, while encouraging collective action to protect one of the country’s most iconic wildlife species.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Prithiviraj Fernando, Chairman of the Centre for Conservation and Research and one of Sri Lanka’s foremost authorities on Asian elephant conservation, highlighted the ecological significance of elephants and stressed the importance of science-based conservation strategies to ensure their long-term survival.
